أثار استخدام زعيم التيار الصدري الشيعي في العراق مقتدى الصدر، مصطلح الخليج العربي غضب الإيرانيين على مواقع التواصل الاجتماعي، حيث طالب البعض وزارة خارجية بلاده بالإسراع بتقديم اعتراض لدى السلطات العراقية، بينما أشاد عراقيون بخطاب الصدر مؤكدين أنه ينمّ عن اعتزازه بأصله العربي.
ومصطلح الخليج العربي ترفضه إيران التي تقدم على الدوام احتجاجات رسمية بالمحافل الدولية مطالبة استخدام مصطلح “الخليج الفارسي”.
وقال الصدر في بيان ترحيبي بمناسبة استضافة البصرة لبطولة الخليج “بسمه تعالى، ضيوفنا العرب الأكارم، من دول (الخليج العربي) مرحبا بكم”.

وأضاف “أهلا وسهلا بالعرب في عراق الأولياء والصالحين، وأهلاً بكم في بصرتكم الغرّاء، ويا ضيفنا لو زرتنا لوجدتنا نحن الضيوف وأنت رب المنزل”.
وطالب الصدر الجميع بمراعاة ذلك، مشيراً إلى “وجوب تجنّب الصراعات والخلافات والفساد، فذلك مضرّ بسمعة العراق والعراقيين”.
وأضاف “كما ولا بأس بمراعاة الجمهور في حضورهم للمباريات ولا سيما مباريات المنتخب العراقي بأن يكون إما مجانيا أو بأجور رمزية”.
واٌفتتحت مساء الجمعة، فعاليات بطولة خليجي 25 على ملعب جذع النخلة بمحافظة البصرة بحضور جماهيري ورسمي لقادة البلاد يتقدمهم رئيس الوزراء محمد شياع السوداني.
واعتبر مغردون إيرانيون أن استخدام الزعيم الشيعي مصطلح “الخليج العربي” يعدّ رسالة تحد مباشرة إلى إيران.
