شركة الاستشارات الجيوسياسية التابعة له “كيسنجر أسوشييتس إنك”، قالت إن جنازته ستجري في مراسم عائلية خاصة، على أن تتبعها في وقت لاحق مراسم تأبين عامة في مدينة نيويورك.
فيما لم يحدد البيان سبب وفاة كيسنجر، الذي اشتهر ببنيته الصغيرة وصوته الأجش ولهجته الألمانية الطاغية.
وبينما أشاد كثيرون بكيسنجر لتألقه وخبرته الواسعة، وصفه آخرون بأنه “مجرم حرب”، لدعمه للأنظمة المناهضة للشيوعية، وخاصةً في أمريكا اللاتينية.
وكانت جائزة السلام التي حصل عليها عام 1973، والتي مُنحت له مناصفةً مع لو دوك ثو من شمال فيتنام والذي رفض الجائزة، واحدةً من أكثر الجوائز إثارة للجدل على الإطلاق. واستقال عضوان من لجنة نوبل بسبب الاختيار إثر ظهور تساؤلات بشأن قصف أمريكي سري لكمبوديا.
