وفي بيان اليوم، قالت اللجنة أن العملية شهدت إعادة رفات تسعة جنود عراقيين مجهولة الهوية و72 رفاتا بشرية تعود لجنود إيرانيين إلى بلادهم.

وبحسب البيان تمت العملية عند منفذ الشلامجة الحدودي بين البلدين قرب مدينة البصرة جنوبي العراق.
ووقع العراق وايران في أكتوبر 2008، برعاية اللجنة الدولية للصليب الأحمر، اتفاقا يتعلق بتبادل المعلومات وتسليم رفات المفقودين خلال الحرب.
وأعيدت مذاك رفات مئات الجنود لكن “أكثر من 30 عاماً مروا على انتهاء النزاع، ولا تزال آلاف العائلات تجهل مصير أحبائها”، وفق الصليب الأحمر.
وكان الطرفان تبادلا في أكتوبر رفات 31 جنديا (11 عراقيا وعشرون إيرانيا)، ورفات 68 آخرين (63 إيرانيا وخمسة عراقيين) في أبريل، قتلوا في النزاع الذي دار بين العامين 1980 و1988، بحسب فرانس برس.
ونشبت الحرب العراقية الإيرانية في سبتمبر 1980 بعدما أيام على إلغاء بغداد اتفاق الجزائر الموقع في العام 1975 الذي كان يهدف إلى تسوية نزاع حدودي بين البلدين عند شط العرب حيث يلتقي نهري دجلة والفرات.
وبعد حرب دامية أسفرت عن مقتل مئات الآلاف من الأشخاص، دخل وقف إطلاق النار بين البلدين حيز التنفيذ في أغسطس 1988.
